Our CEO, Mr. Hans Stråberg has said , “By conducting business in the right way — in a way that is socially and environmentally sustainable — we can seize all the advantages a global market offers, while also having a positive influence on the world. That is how sustainable development and globalization can work hand in hand.”
At Electrolux, high quality extends both to products and company conduct. We have a strong governance structure to guide our actions and it safeguards high environmental and social standards. We identify ethical, environmental and social opportunities and risks and actively address them in the way we work. Our ‘globally facilitated, locally owned’ management systems help ensure that we can respond firmly but flexibly in meeting high social and environmental standards. But it is our employees around the world that transform our sustainability strivings into practice.
There are five main ways in which we strive to be a thoughtful company. We emphasise Thoughtful Design, we are a Thoughtful Corporate Citizen, we believe in Thoughtful Transitions , we strive to be a Thoughtful Employer and business partner and we aim for a Thoughtful Legacy as we are responsible for what our future generations inherit.
In Asia our sustainability strategy is driven by our experience and knowledge about environmental conditions and concerns of the markets we serve. We are aware that the primary concerns of our consumers in Asia are water and energy shortages. Ecological awareness is prevalent among consumers in all markets whether regardless of affluence. Governments are getting in on the act, too, and are stepping forward with incentives and subsidies for Green efforts.
Electrolux has a long tradition of continuously improving the environmental performance of products; by reducing water and energy consumption, and designing products for more efficient recycling. Our products are designed to accommodate the needs of our consumers in their different stages in life. With the launch of our Eco Range products in Asia we achieved the highest standards of water and energy efficiency across refrigeration, laundry and cooking products.
As part of the Electrolux Green Spirit campaign, in 2007 Electrolux set a target of 15% reduction in energy consumption by 2009 across the company and this was achieved successfully. Our factories, which are responsible for 95% of Electrolux’s direct CO2 emissions, reduced energy consumption by 17.7% in this period. Additional Targets of 15% reduction in energy consumption from 2010 to 2012 have been set.
We aim to lead in green products and we have a clear strategy to achieve this. A big step forward in reaching this goal is in creating entire ranges of environmentally-friendly products in every business sector. Look forward to have a deeper insight of our Eco Range of appliances in our subsequent newsletter !
